Blue Sunday Starts On A High Note!

The Dayton Blues Society’s first blues jam swept through Gilly’s Sunday, August 10th, with a room full of Dayton and the surrounding area’s finest musicians.

As planned, Hoza Higgins and Low Rent Blues took the stage at 6pm and the group took the audience on a ride thru a few old standards and some of the original music he and Denny Johnson have been working on of late. The band consisted of Danny Sauers on sax, Tim Arnold on guitar, Tim Barton on drums, Denny Johnson on bass, Fred Gillespie on guitar, Mike Jordon on keys, and Hoza on vocal and harp.

After a set that lasted almost an hour, the jam began with a virtual who’s who of Dayton area musicians including,

Sharon Lane, Mike Safreed, Greg Bell, John Hack, Reece Lincoln, Gregg Clark, John Wright, Gale Brown, “Little” Mary, Eddie Tyson, Jake Shumaker, Rick Bailey, Earl “Southside” Hayes, Dave Randall, Brad Hatfield, JoAnn Hampton-Moat (her first blues jam as a player), Deano Rogers, Walter Roy from Clarksdale, Miss., Gary Mack (CBA),   and a few that came late and didn’t get a chance to play or choose to party instead … Read more & photos . . .

Hurricane Ike Knocks The Wind Out Of DBS Jam

Fate dealt a blow to the DBS “Blue Sunday” Jam Sunday, Sept. 14th at the Trolley Stop when it blew into town a few hours before the jam was to begin and hung around for quite a while, knocking down trees and knocking out power.

Many jammers and members stayed home to secure their home and be with their families. That’s the way it should be.
The rest of us carried on in your name! The DBS Blues Board opened the show and then the jammers took over with some great combos and a lot of great blues. In addition, the DBS had the first ever DBS members meeting before the jam!!!
